Happy New Year 2019!

I’ve never commented on any of my original cartoons before, because if it has to be explained … well, you know. This is kinda a special one though, about a special day …

On January 1, 2019, for the first time in 20 years, a substantial number of published works will enter the public domain in the United States. Movies like Harold Loyd’s “Safety Last!”, songs like “The Charleston”, books like Felix Salten’s “Bambi”, and other works published in 1923 will finally be available for free for anyone to republish, adapt, perform, and otherwise enjoy, as well as for education, research, and creative endeavors. All these works were scheduled to enter the public domain in 1999, when Congress delighted copyright holders and enraged public domain advocates by adding 20 years to copyright terms.
